Private vs Shared Safari
8 July 2026 · 5 min read

On a shared safari you travel with other guests, which means shared timings, shared priorities and a compromise at every sighting. On a private safari the vehicle and guide are yours.
The practical differences are larger than they sound. You leave when you want, which in practice means before first light when predators are still moving. You stay as long as you want. If someone in your group is a photographer, you can position for the light rather than for the average.
Private also solves the family problem. Small children set their own pace, and no one is watching the clock on your behalf.
Shared safaris make sense when budget is the binding constraint and you would rather have more nights than more control, or when you are travelling solo and happy with company.
If you can only afford one upgrade on your trip, I usually suggest this one over a more expensive camp.
