How Many Days Do You Need in the Maasai Mara?

Count nights, not days. A two-night stay means you arrive in the afternoon, have one full day, and leave the following morning. If weather closes in or the cats are quiet, you have no second chance.
Three nights gives two full days, which is enough to find lion, likely cheetah, and possibly leopard. It is the number I recommend most often for a first Mara visit.
Four nights is where the experience changes character. You stop chasing sightings and start following individual animals across days, which is far more interesting. It also lets you split time between conservancy land and the national reserve.
During the migration, add a night if you can. River crossings do not run to a timetable, and having a spare morning is the difference between seeing one and hearing about one.
Beyond five nights in the Mara alone, most travellers are better served by moving somewhere with a different landscape.
